Course Description

This course examines aspects involved in the design, sizing and installation of solar PV systems. This course covers permits/restrictions, logistical site considerations, system sizing, factors affecting solar PV output and aspects involved with the CEC relating to the installation. You will see equipment up-close, functioning, dismantle and inspect a roof-top system. You will see real-world applications of solar PV systems.

This course is intended for certified Journeyperson electricians however, individuals currently working in the electrical field with a working knowledge of electrical systems and the Canadian electrical code are welcome. This course is not intended for general interest, homeowners, or individuals without electrical knowledge looking to install solar photovoltaics.

Prerequisites:
It is strongly recommended that students have at least one of the following occupations: Certified Electrician, Registered Apprentice working under supervision, Power System Electrician, Power Line Technician or their apprentices, Electrical Engineer, or Electrical Engineering Technologist.

Schedule:
This course will be delivered in a blended format: Virtually using Zoom & Brightspace/D2L. Zoom sessions are on Monday & Wednesday from 6:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m., and on-campus Saturday’s from 9:00 a.m. - 3:50 p.m.
