Course Description

The purpose of the exam is to perform a CAN/ULC-S537 verification on the test boards which would include all panel and device tests. The verification report includes a legend and device page with all the field device's location pre-entered. All device and panel literature are available including a sequence of operation and riser drawing of the test system.

You will be required to complete the CAN/ULC-S537 Appendix C verification form and identify and record any deficiencies/recommendations but will not be required to correct them.

This practical exam is a requirement for the Canadian Fire Alarm Association (CFAA) Technician certification.

Learner Outcomes

1. Complete the CAN/ULC-S537 verification form to identify and record any deficiencies and/or recommendations.

1.1 Verify fire alarm system report.

1.2 Document fire alarm system.

1.3 Test and inspect field devices and related circuits.

1.4 Demonstrate the required system response times.

1.5 Inspect control unit or transponder.

1.6 Inspect power supply.

1.7 Inspect emergency power supply test.

1.8 Test ancillary device circuit.

1.9 Test interconnection to the fire signal receiving center.

1.10 Test and record field device.

Notes

There are 100 total marks with a pass mark of 80%. Bonus Marks will be given for valid recommendations.
