Overview

Hydrogen is gaining momentum as a low-carbon energy carrier and industrial feedstock, creating new opportunities and considerations for process-related occupations. Hydrogen Awareness and Understanding for Process-Related Occupations provides foundational knowledge to help you understand how hydrogen can be safely and effectively applied within industrial environments.

Designed for mid-career professionals working in process-related roles across industries, this SAIT Micro-credential explores the properties, production, storage and transportation of hydrogen, along with its potential applications across industrial sectors. You’ll examine the technical, economic and regulatory factors that influence hydrogen integration and industrial decision-making.

Safety management is a core focus of the course. You’ll assess hydrogen-specific hazards, explore applicable codes, standards and regulations, and examine risk assessment methodologies and best practices for hydrogen handling, storage and transportation. The course also emphasizes the role of safety culture in supporting safe and compliant hydrogen-related operations.

Delivered in a flexible, self-directed online format, the course features interactive modules, applied assessments and instructor support. Industry-experienced instructors are available by email to provide guidance and answer questions as you build practical knowledge and confidence to engage in informed discussions about hydrogen integration and its role in a low-carbon economy.

  • describe the safe handling, storage, transportation and utilization of hydrogen to ensure the well-being of personnel and the integrity of facilities.
