Course Description
Overview
Are you eager to learn more about project management and gain the skills to lead successful projects with confidence?
Project Management Essentials is designed to dig deep into essential concepts and principles of project management, based on the latest edition of the Project Management Institute’s (PMI's) A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide).
Using the 12 Principles of Project Management, you'll complete this SAIT Micro-credential course with the key tools and templates to effectively initiate, plan, execute and close projects. You’ll learn how to deliver value through effective leadership and communication, a crucial skill set for any successful project manager.
This course is a great starting point toward mastering project management through our six-course Project Management certificate program.
There are no eligibility requirements for this course. Any prior or current education and work experience from any industry or sector will enhance your professional development journey.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- explain key concepts in project initiation, including the project life cycle and the spectrum of development approaches from predictive to agile
- describe the basic elements of agile project management
- create essential documents to support project initiation, including a project charter, stakeholder analysis and project communications plan
- develop project planning documents, including requirements lists, scope statements and work breakdown structures
- use project scope to develop schedule and cost baselines and identify, rank and treat project risks and establish contingency plans
- guide your project through execution using the project management plan while managing change and implementing risk contingency plan
- track and report progress to key stakeholders through effective tracking and communication procedures, techniques and documentation
- explain the essential components and artifacts of project close-out, including formal acceptance, the close-out report and a lessons learned.
