Course Description

This introductory railway safety course is intended for personnel working with or around rail cars, including managers and members of health and safety committees. While becoming familiar with the basic components and systems associated with rail operations you will learn how to work safely and efficiently around static rail cars and railway tracks.


Rail car safety and securement training topics include: Switching Operations Fatalities Analysis (SOFA); Rail Cars; How to safely entrain, ride rail cars, crossover and detrain; Basic Air Brakes and Handbrake procedures; Track; Handling Switches and Derails; and Alberta Industrial Railway Operating Rules (IROR).
