Course Description

This course gives you a basic foundation for industrial radiography for Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). You'll learn the physical principles of penetrating radiation, sources, detection, process and weld interpretation. You will also focus on practical applications and theory for Level I Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) certification.

You'll be introduced to digital and computed radiography, film interpretation of discontinuities and radiation safety with x-ray tubes - a requirement by the Alberta Government codes.

Prerequisites

As a RT Level 1 Radiography student, you must possess adequate radiation safety knowledge. This is achieved by completing a radiation safety training course (minimum 8 hours) OR by passing a CNSC Certified Exposure Device Operator (CEDO) training course (i.e. INSP 119).

One of CODE 270, CODE 118 or EXAM 109 and one of INSP 119, INSP 133 or INSP 220 are mandatory prerequisites for the course. If you have completed this requirement at a school other than SAIT, email your proof of completion documents to conedadvising@sait.ca at least one week prior to the course start.

If you're applying for training, you must possess adequate mathematical proficiency required for NDT. A passing grade in any Grade 10 Math or equivalent is required. If you cannot produce credentials to demonstrate math proficiency, you must write the Math 10-C exam at SAIT. To book this test, please contact the SAIT Testing Centre at testing@sait.ca. Note: if you are already certified in another non-destructive testing method, you are exempt from this prerequisite.
