Course Description

This course explores how to apply and properly detail control layers in wall assemblies. You'll review common products used in detailing of high-performance residential construction and will learn through demonstration and online interactive activities how to maintain optimum air and water control in the detailing of typical envelope penetrations. You'll also be introduced through demonstration how to complete a blower door test to verify building air tightness and locate and correct sources of air leakage.

Upon completion of this course, you will be able to:

  • describe the location and function of air, water, vapour and thermal control layers in wall assemblies
  • explain how to locate and correct sources of air leakage through use of a blower door
  • describe the properties and uses of typical products used in residential construction detailing
  • explain strategies for completing air and watertight envelope systems.
