PROJ 023 - Project Risk Methods and Practices
Course Description
Project risk management is vital for organizations as it proactively minimizes potential losses and ensures successful project outcomes, enhancing efficiency, stakeholder confidence and overall resilience. Are you ready to hone your professional project risk management skills and apply them to your current or future projects?
This 14-hour project risk management course is based on the latest Project Management Institute’s (PMI’s) A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK® Guide) and The Standard for Risk Management in Portfolios, Programs and Projects. The course focuses on advanced concepts and special techniques for effective project risk management. You’ll start by exploring vital concepts and success factors of risk management and learning how to create a tailored risk management plan. Then, you’ll investigate a variety of methods to help you identify specific project risks, prioritize them and quantify the potential outcomes and impacts of significant risks. Finally, you'll learn how to plan and implement appropriate risk responses in a controlled way to ensure the successful achievement of your project’s objectives.
Register for our online asynchronous format if you need a more flexible, independent approach to learning. Register for our in-person, classroom-based or virtual options if you prefer learning in a social setting. Regardless of format, you'll get access to engaging online content and assessments and tap into the expert guidance of our industry-trained instructor who will ensure you get the most from this applied learning experience. This course is part of the Project Management Certificate of Completion.

Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- create a tailored, project risk management plan that covers all relevant organizational parameters and sources of uncertainty
- develop a comprehensive list of project risks using a variety of different threat identification methods
- analyze risks for a case-study project using best practice qualitative and quantitative methods to prioritize the risks, support decision-making and estimate financial impact
- plan appropriate risk responses based on recognized threat and opportunity management strategies
- control project risks throughout the project lifecycle in collaboration with the team and project stakeholders.
You’ll demonstrate your skill and knowledge acquisition through four assignments. All coursework must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date.

Complete all courses required for the Project Management Certificate of Completion to receive your SAIT certificate credential.
This course may be used toward educational prerequisites for attaining PMI certifications or toward professional development units (PDUs) to maintain certifications. Additional education, exams and/or work experience requirements may apply.
