NGAS 002 - Refrigeration Processes I
Course Description
Explore the principles of refrigeration processes used in shallow-cut gas processing facilities, including refrigerant properties, compression refrigeration system equipment, charging and purging a system and operating system problems. Refrigeration Processes I consists of theory and knowledge-based self-assessment components, quizzes and a proctored final exam. An experienced instructor will provide email support as you work through this 15-hour online asynchronous course.
This course is a part of our LNG micro-credential series and provides a micro-credential to those seeking knowledge about refrigeration processes prior to learning about LNG operations. It is a beneficial course for anyone preparing to enter the gas processing or LNG industry. Additionally, it serves as a valuable complement to our Gas Process Operations certificate. This course is made possible with funding from the Government of Alberta.
Note: Registration for this course closes two days before the course start date.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- describe refrigeration principles
- describe the basic equipment in a compression refrigeration system
- describe the operation of a compression refrigeration system
This online course is structured and guided. All coursework including the final exam must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date.

You must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time you start this course. There are no other admission requirements (academic and/or work experience).
There are no prerequisites for this course.
All course materials are included in the cost of tuition and accessible in the Brightspace (D2L) learning platform on the course start date. The final exam is proctored online using Respondus LockDown Browser.
