NGAS 003 - Refrigeration Processes II
Course Description
Take our 18-hour Refrigeration Processes II course to build an understanding of cryogenic refrigeration processes. You'll delve into topics like cryogenic heat exchangers, cascade refrigeration systems and the operating principles of an expander plant. An experienced instructor will be available via email to support you as you work through the theoretical aspects and self-assessment components, which include quizzes and a proctored final exam.
This course is a part of our LNG micro-credential series and provides a micro-credential to those seeking knowledge about ethane extraction and LNG operations. It is a beneficial course for individuals who are preparing to enter the LNG industry. Additionally, it serves as a valuable complement to our Gas Process Operations certificate. This course is made possible with funding from the Government of Alberta.
Note: Registration for this course closes two days before the course start date.
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- discuss the purpose and types of cryogenic refrigeration systems
- describe cascade refrigeration systems
- describe a turboexpander plant and its operation
- describe LNG plant liquefaction processes.
This online course is structured and guided. All coursework including the final exam must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date.

You must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time you start this course. There are no other admission requirements (academic and/or work experience).
There are no prerequisites for this course.
All course materials are included in the cost of tuition and accessible in the Brightspace (D2L) learning platform on the course start date. The final exam is proctored online using Respondus LockDown Browser.
We recommend registering as soon as possible (7–14 days in advance of the course start date).
