Course Description
Are you a beginner Excel user looking to grow your skills for immediate application on the job? Our new DIGI-030 Excel for Reporting course will get you there.
In this 32-hour course, our experienced instructors and meticulously designed, user-friendly online materials will guide you through the Excel landscape using Microsoft 365. This course focuses on the practical skills used to create thorough Excel reports. You'll learn Excel basics, move into formulas and dive into the essentials of efficient data gathering, basic data management and visualization.
Upon completing the course, you'll be able to handle large data sets, extract meaningful insights and present findings effectively. You'll be ready to tackle reporting challenges with confidence. These skills will also prepare you to take the most current Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification exam for Excel.
Note: Registration for this course closes two days before the course start date.
Learner Outcomes
Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:
- operate Excel key features, design, data type and navigation
- write Excel essential formulas, syntax, essential functions and data lookups
- create charts, conditional formatting and other data visualizations
- manage data sets, tables, common errors efficiently and dynamically
- design controls to streamline form controls and data validation.
You’ll demonstrate your skill and knowledge acquisition through coursework and assessments during and after class.

Earn a SAIT micro-credential
This course qualifies for the SAITMicro badge. Students who successfully complete this course with a final grade of A- or higher will earn a micro-credential and receive a shareable digital badge.

This course will benefit anyone looking to gain a foundational level of knowledge of Excel and be able to create reports for everyday use.
You must be a minimum of 18 years of age at the time you start this course. There are no other admission requirements (academic and/or work experience) required for this course.
You’ll need basic familiarity with computer, mouse and keyboard features and commands to:
- start and run Windows
- use the taskbar
- use the Start button
- use the Help feature
- use Minimize, Restore Down/Maximize or Close
- use the left and right mouse buttons
- understand file management techniques
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Course cost: Tuition includes access to a configured classroom/lab computer station and supporting course materials in the Brightspace (D2L) learning platform. You’ll access the Excel app through your SAIT-provided student version of Microsoft 365 (cloud or desktop). You may bring in your own laptop (and power cord) for class sessions, but this is not required. For homework assignments completed outside of class time, ensure that your own computer meets the minimum technical requirements to use Brightspace (D2L). Tuition does not include the arranging, administration or cost associated with MOS Excel Certification exams.
