Third Class Power Engineering A2 course covers the following topics:

  • Code Calculations-ASME Section 1
  • Fuels, Combustion, Flue Gas Analysis
  • Piping Design, Connections and Support
  • Steam Traps, Water hammer, Insulation
  • Valves and Actuators
  • Electrical Theory and DC machines
  • AC Theory and Machines
  • AC Systems, Switchgear, Safety
  • Electrical Calculations
  • Control Loops and Strategies
  • Instrument and Control Devices
  • Distributed and Logic Control
  • Safety Management Systems and Fire Protection Systems

Prerequisites

To register you must be a holder of a valid Provincial Power Engineering Fourth Class Certificate.

PWEN 002 and PWEN 112 are the mandatory requirements for this course. You are required to show proof of completion by emailing conedadvising@sait.ca.

Recommendations

It is recommended that students have a minimum of Grade 12 Math, Physics and English.

Prerequisites: 

  • PWEN-002 and PWEN-112 are mandatory requirements for this course.  For students that have completed these courses outside of SAIT, you are required to show proof of completion by emailing conedadvising@sait.ca at least one week prior to course start.
  • It is recommended that students have a minimum of Grade 12 Math, Physics, and English.
  • Must be a holder of a valid Provincial Power Engineering Fourth Class Certificate.

Extensions: 

This course offers the option to purchase one, non-refundable course extension which gives you additional time to complete the course equal to half the original course duration.
