Course Description

Complete your estimating learning journey with this final advanced estimating course for the Construction Estimating and Bid Preparation Certificate of Achievement.

As you move through this 24-hour online course with the guidance and support of an industry-experienced instructor, you'll explore the fundamentals of construction project management. Through hands-on practice, you'll learn to utilize cost reporting systems to evaluate project progress against budgets, manage project changes with other business units and compile digital and paper estimates and bid documents for commercial building projects.

You’ll enjoy fresh, interactive modular content with tool and resources that can be immediately applied to real-world projects and gain hands-on experience using Bluebeam construction software while completing coursework and assessments. Additionally, you'll have the option to join in weekly one-hour virtual drop-in sessions with your instructor and peers to further enrich your learning experience. By the end of this course, you'll be well-equipped with the skills and knowledge to prepare construction cost reports, complete bid documents and conduct post-bid reviews, essential for success in the construction industry.

This course is ideal if you:

  • are an early or mid-level construction professional seeking to strengthen your estimating and bidding skills
  • are preparing for a role in project management, cost estimation or planning/scheduling
  • are interested in learning how to use Bluebeam construction software to create estimates and digital documents.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, you’ll be able to:

  • evaluate the progress of a construction project against its budget using the cost reporting system
  • assist with managing project changes in consultation with other organizational business units
  • complete standard digital and paper bid documents for a commercial building project from a bid report.

You’ll demonstrate your skill and knowledge acquisition through three graded assignments and a number of online discussion board posts. All coursework must be completed as per the course schedule and no later than the course end date.

There are no specific admission requirements (academic and/or work experience). Any construction industry-related experience you already have will be beneficial.

Course completion: Upon successful completion of this non-credit course, you’ll receive an electronic copy of your official transcript. You’ll also be able to self-print a proof of completion document from your Continuing Education student account. Complete all courses required for the Construction Estimating and Bid Preparation program to receive your SAIT certificate credential.

Click on the Brightspace (D2L) icon/link to access online course content and further instructions to get started, including how to access Bluebeam through Apporto, and how to access your virtual sessions.We encourage you to use your webcam and microphone to contribute to a more collaborative learning experience.

Extensions 

  • This course offers the option to purchase one, non-refundable course extension which gives you additional time to complete the course equal to half the original course duration. Phone the Continuing Education Advising team at 1.888.284.7051 a minimum of seven days before the course’s original end date to purchase. Payment by Visa or Mastercard is required at the time of your request.
